Selfless

It is both
a blessing
and a curse
to care
too deeply
about someone’s
happiness
over your own
and lie
to your heart
that seeing them
happy
makes you
happy.

If we lived
in a world
with no
mirrors,
I would look
at the
reflection
in your eyes
to see
what you see
in me.

Dear friend,

He actually made an effort to visit me.
We talked, and he told me he needed comforting.
His eyes looked like they were filled with sorrow, but I didn’t ask why.
Instead, I gave him what he wanted, no questions asked.
We cuddled.
We held each other’s hands.
We stared into each other’s eyes.
We smiled, awkwardly.
I hugged him and he hugged me tighter.
He didn’t want to let me go.
That was the best feeling to feel.
There was a lot of silence.
I could just hear his breathing
and his heart beating.
I didn’t need anything else in this moment.
I was finally intertwined with the person that makes me happiest.
The same person that makes me forget about the world outside this embrace.
We stayed up all night.
We weren’t bored.
We weren’t tired.
We were just… happy.

Love always,
Alex

Undiscovered Love

People always say,
“Be patient.
Don’t try to find love.
Love will find you.”

The only problem is,
what if I’m the love
my future lover
is waiting for?
